ARTIST STATEMENT From Me to You in Different Places and Memoriesfeatures a selection of paintings representing various locations in the city of Los Angeles that are of significance to Justin N. Kim from his Maps series, along with abstract pieces from his series Bigger Than Myself, both of which stem from ideas of connection and interconnection. These paintings are Kim's way of paying homage to Los Angeles and the complexities of living in this massive, complicated, and nuanced metropolis.
Both bodies of works Bigger Than Myself and Maps set to question and explore what it means to contribute and participate in the greater human experience in different ways. Through similar situations, experiences, memories, places and settings, the collection of Los Angeles map paintings and somewhat monochromatic abstract pieces seek connection and empathy with the people living in the city of Los Angeles.
