ARTIST STATEMENT 2024
Lisa Golightly strives to capture the essence of fleeting moments and the emotional landscapes of everyday life. Her paintings are an exploration of the intersection between memory, perception, and the natural world. Using vibrant colors and expressive brushwork, she creates a dialogue between abstraction and representation, inviting viewers to engage with and relate to their own memories and experiences.
Found photographs work as a starting point to her paintings. With a vast collection of found photos, slides and home movies, she is constantly combing through imagery looking for a thread of connection to grow. She is fascinated by the intricacies of relationships, the interplay of light and shadow, and the beauty found in imperfection. Each painting serves as a practice in storytelling, where layers of paint mimic the layers of our experiences, capturing the complexity of our emotions.
Embracing a process-oriented approach to painting she allows intuition to guide her hand. This spontaneity not only infuses her work with energy but also mirrors the unpredictability of life itself. Ultimately, the goal of the work is to create a sense of connection—to evoke introspection, longing and sometimes sadness that resonates with others.
BIOGRAPHY
Lisa Golightly studied at the University of Arizona and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography and Photo Journalism. Golightly has exhibited throughout the United States and internationally. She lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
